This counterpane or coverlet was presented to Queen Victoria at Osborne House to celebrate her Golden Jubilee. It was made of silk by the Macclesfield Embroidery School at Hope Mills, founded by J. O. Nicholson, to represent Macclesfield, which had the largest silk industry in the UK.
